Hotel Roanoke
Showcasing the Star City's rich history, the historic Hotel Roanoke — also known as the "Grand Old Lady" — began as a place to rest for railroaders passing through town.
Over the past 125 years, the hotel has been transformed into a carefully preserved historic landmark offering various services and amenities.
Visitors can marvel at the antique-filled lobby with original Czechoslovakian-made chandeliers and the ceiling that was painted to show the constellations as they appeared in the sky the day the first train came to Roanoke in 1852.
The nostalgic yet modern hotel has recently introduced in-house spa services and new dining and entertainment offerings in the Regency Room, home of the hotel's signature peanut soup, and the Pine Room Pub, formerly an officers' club in World War II. Both places are open to the public.
The hotel is just over the railroad tracks from downtown Roanoke, and the two are connected by a glass-enclosed skywalk.
