The design was inspired by our beautiful mountains and local landmarks such as Natural Bridge. Here’s more on the architect and the museum’s history. Tell us what you think!

The museum’s collection includes more than 2,050 works – paintings, sculpture, prints, photography and more. Big names include Norman Rockwell, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Howard Finster and Judith Leiber.

Into tattoos? The museum’s opening exhibits take in the modern obsession with body art as well as look back at 17th century masters from Florence.

Once you’ve seen the art, kick back and grab a bite at the café, shop for a gift at the museum store or check out the concert series in the theater. Ready for even more? We have a whole list of things to do  – sightseeing, gallery-hopping, shopping and dining – in downtown Roanoke.
